ABOUT US
Virginia Paws for Pits (VPFP) is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit rescue specializing in "bully breeds", AKA "Pit Bull" type dogs. We pull dogs into our rescue from local shelters as well as various other high kill shelters in Virginia and our neighboring states. We do not have a physical shelter location and rely solely on foster homes to house and care for our dogs. Once our dogs are placed in an approved foster home, their dedicated foster families continue to house and care for them until they are adopted. On average, we usually have anywhere from 50-70 dogs in our care.
So why do Pit Bulls need us so badly? It is estimated that an astounding 2,800 Pit Bulls are euthanized in shelters every day. Pit Bulls tend to make up anywhere from 33%-65% of the shelter population, and it is estimated that only one out of every 600 Pit Bulls will ever find a home. On average, about 93% of the Pit Bulls that wind up in shelters will be euthanized. These statistics are bleak to say the least, and we cannot fight for these misunderstood dogs alone. If you are interested in helping the cause and becoming a VPFP Pit Bull crusader there are many ways you can help.
FOSTER
We are always in need of new foster homes because the more foster families we have, the more dogs we're able to save. Please visit our foster information tab for more information about becoming a VPFP foster parent.
ADOPT
Avoid breeders and pet stores and adopt your next furry family member instead. When you adopt from a rescue organization like VPFP, you're actually saving two lives because every dog adopted guarantees an open spot for a shelter dog in need. Please check out our adoptable dogs and puppies to see which dogs are in need of a loving forever home.
DONATE
We provide vet care to all of our dogs prior to adoption. This can range from extensive (for special needs cases) to basic. Additionally, we are constantly buying food, treats, blankets, and other supplies, as well as paying boarding costs for our dogs in boarding facilities. With a crew of over 50+ dogs, these expenses really add up. Please consider donating to help our cause our purchasing something from our Amazon Wish List. Donations are tax deductible and can be sent to us via Paypal using our email address, virginiapawsforpits@gmail.com or mailed to 151 Old White Hill Rd, Staunton VA 24401.
VOLUNTEER
Do you have a special skill or talent you think would be useful to VPFP? We are in need of dog walkers, handlers for events, photographers, graphic designers, home check volunteers, event coordinators, transporters, and even short term pet-sitters for when our foster families go on vacation. The list is almost endless! Please email us at virginiapawsforpits@gmail.com if you'd like to volunteer your time for the "bullies".
